An Experimental Satellite-based Flood Monitoring System for Southern Queensland, Australia
نویسندگان
چکیده
A near real-time system is described, which provides spatial information of inland flood extent, using MOderate resolution Imaging Spectrometer (MODIS) optical reflectance and Advanced Microwave Scanning Radiometer (AMSR-E) microwave brightness temperature imagery, and flood volume through combination with a Digital Elevation Model (DEM). This information is an independent and useful addition to point data of gauged river flow at the inand outlet of floodplains, typically only available with some latency, if at all. Comparison of satellite-derived volume estimates with those estimated from flow gauges for flood events on the lower-Balonne floodplain, SouthQueensland, indicates flood volumes generally compare quite well at the onset of the flood events, but start to deviate at the peak flow into the flood recession. This is possibly explained by a combination of ungauged outflows, soil infiltration, evaporation and diversion of flood water into many large open reservoirs for crop irrigation.

Development of a weighted leanness measurement method in modular construction companies
This paper outlines the development of an improved approach to the use of lean tools and techniques to improve the performance of manufacturing enterprises. Several research studies attempt to measure the overall leanness score of the manufacturing process; however, they failed to consider the interdependent relationships between lean performance metrics and considered all performance measures ...
متن کاملFollow-Up Visits in Doctor-Patient Communication: The Vietnamese Case
In a “follow-up visit”, a patient seeks medical attention for an existing health problem. Using data from the Vietnamese public hospital system, we present a more nuanced analysis of follow-ups in health communication than the one currently available. To be specific, we discriminate between “same follow-ups”, in which the doctor is the same one as in the last visit, and “different follow-ups”, ...

Abstract This paper presents the intelligent techniques approach for flood monitoring using Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) satellite images. We applied artificial neural networks and Self-Organizing Kohonen Maps (SOMs), to SAR image segmentation and classification. Our approach was used to process data from different SAR satellite instruments (ERS-2/SAR, ENVISAT/ASAR, RADARSAT-1/2) for differen...
متن کاملFlood Impacts in Keppel Bay, Southern Great Barrier Reef in the Aftermath of Cyclonic Rainfall
In December 2010, the highest recorded Queensland rainfall associated with Tropical Cyclone 'Tasha' caused flooding of the Fitzroy River in Queensland, Australia. A massive flood plume inundated coral reefs lying 12 km offshore of the Central Queensland coast near Yeppoon and caused 40-100% mortality to coral fringing many of the islands of Keppel Bay down to a depth of ∼8 m. The severity of co...
متن کاملA Multi-Scale Flood Monitoring System Based on Fully Automatic MODIS and TerraSAR-X Processing Chains
A two-component fully automated flood monitoring system is described and evaluated. This is a result of combining two individual flood services that are currently under development at DLR’s (German Aerospace Center) Center for Satellite based Crisis Information (ZKI) to rapidly support disaster management activities. A first-phase monitoring component of the system systematically detects potent...
